What Kind Of Curtain Hardware Is There?
Many people are unaware of the large amount of different types of styles and designs in drapery rods and hardware. As such, the importance of these magnificent accessories is often overlooked when it comes to building a theme in a room.
So, what exactly are some examples of drapery hardware that can be used as an accent to a drapery panel? Aside from the most obvious, the curtain rod, there are quite a few different categories. However, three of these categories are more notable than others due to the immense amount of design options that are currently available.
- Curtain Hold Backs
- Curtain Rod Finials
- Curtain Tiebacks
Each of these different types of accessories offer a unique look all their own, and can easily be incorporated into a pre-existing theme.
Curtain Hold Backs
Curtain hold backs are among the most popular types of hardware used for drapery rods. These pieces generally consist of brackets or hooks that mount into the wall in which the curtain can be pulled back and bunched up in to allow light to enter a room.
Typically, you will find these pieces in a variety of contemporary finishes; such as stainless steel, polished chrome or nickel, and at times even brass. Many people buy these accessories more so for their functionality over their design and accent to the style of the drapery. However, delving deeper into the style of your curtain rod as well as the curtain itself; you can really find a fantastic accent to your theme if you take some time to look at all of the different styles of curtain holdbacks that are available.
Curtain Rod Finials
Curtain rod finials are another fantastic and simple accessory that is often overlooked in a themed setting.
A finial is basically the decorated piece that resides on either end of the curtain rod, they can also be found at the top of a lamp spire located in the up-most position of a lamp. Like curtain hold backs, these accessories have an endless array of designs and styles that are available for window drapery rods. Generally, you want to use these in sets; however, you can also mix and match different designs as long as they portray the overall theme of the drapery as well as the theme of the space in it's entirety.
Curtain Tiebacks
Curtain tiebacks are among the most simplistic of the popular drapery rods and hardware categories. These accessories typically consist of a knotted rope, or even chain, that is used as a tieback for the curtain. Sometimes these come included in a drapery set; however, if you want a unique style or specific design, they will more than likely have to be purchased separately.
The main thing about tiebacks that sets them apart from hold backs is that generally, they exhibit tassels at their ends which appeal to those who have a western or rustic theme in the room where the tiebacks will be utilized. Due to this seemingly minute accent, the tiebacks have a very loyal and tightly focused consumer base.

The last time I noticed was when I hung a curtain that blocks the excessive sunlight that comes through our patio doors in the mid to late afternoon. Putting them in has made an enormous difference to reduce the heat in that room. I used a very economical solution - two question mark shaped hooks I screwed into the frame above the door and a copper plumbing pipe cut to length to fit above the door. I had the hooks and the pipe on hand, so I had no cost, and the curtains were given to me.
Not as elegant or nice as what you are suggesting, but it is working quite well.
